Enjoy the Ride: A Family-Friendly Cycling Adventure in Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora an ideal destination for family activities where all ages can enjoy together. Nestled along the scenic D2 Jure Robič Biking Trail, Kranjska Gora offers the perfect route for recreational cyclists. This trail, designed on a former railway line, is not only incredibly accessible but also well-maintained and fully separated from traffic, making it a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The real beauty of this trail lies in its mix of convenience and nature. During the summer months, the trail is shaded by dense forest, allowing cyclists to stay cool and comfortable throughout the day. Plus, the breathtaking views and landscapes along the way encourage you to stop often, whether to rest, take a photo, or enjoy some delicious local food at one of the many charming spots. With kids, we usually opt for one of two routes, depending on how much time we have for cycling.
Half-Day Ride to Mojstrana
For a more relaxed outing, we take the shorter 7 km route to Mojstrana. This easy ride is perfect for families with younger children. Our destination? First, more peaceful and convenient is Sonček Kolesarsko Postajališče just along the bike route, that offers fresh-made fruit smoothies, trampolines for jumping fun, and a sandy play area to explore. For a more dynamic break, we can head to the Calisthenics Park just a few minutes away, across the bridge. Surrounded by forest, with a serene lake and a zip line for kids, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature.
Full-Day Adventure to Tarvisio
When we’re ready for a bigger challenge, we head out on the 20 km ride to Tarvisio, a picturesque Italian mountain town. Once there, we take the cable car up to Monte Lussari, where we’re greeted with amazing views of the mountains and forests. It’s a peaceful spot, with local restaurants serving delicious regional food, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The ride toward Italy is mostly flat or downhill, but the return journey presents a bit more of a challenge with a few uphill sections. However, with a bit of perseverance, even kids as young as 5 can handle the full route.
Pro Tip for Parents:
If your child starts to tire during the ride, consider letting them bike as much as possible, then placing them in a child seat or bike trailer for the rest of the journey. There are plenty of access points along the route where you can securely leave their bike and return by car to pick it up later. If you'd rather take it easy, renting an e-bike is the perfect solution.
